No dollar figure yet

Oconee sheriff Mike Crenshaw says, as yet, there is still no figure for the dollar loss resulting from the data breach of the county government’s payroll service.  Meantime, Crenshaw’s office has yet to hear if the FBI will investigate what happened, though both the FBI and the state police have been asked.  Those workers affected by the discovery of the breach last Friday were issued paper checks.  From talking to a pair of county workers today, it’s obvious that this apparent high tech crime has unnerved them and others.  The two county workers say they have taken the protection step of changing their personal bank account numbers, as a way to prevent being victimized further.
