Northeast Georgia homicide investigation

The body of what authorities are saying is a homicide victim has been taken from Lavonia, Georgia to the state police lab for an autopsy and positive identification.  Meantime, the authorities are not releasing the name of the victim–awaiting a positive identification and the notification of family members.  The investigation started yesterday when the Lavonia police were asked to make a welfare check at a home on Gilmer Street.  The police chief, Bruce Carlisle, quoted the caller as saying a person was on the ground and possibly had head injuries.  A state crime team was expected to have spent the remainder of the day and most of the night at the scene, to exam the residence and speak to neighbors   Michael Ayers, a state police agent, said earlier he did not believe the public was in any danger and believes what happened was an isolated incident.
