“Nothing more than a long driveway”

Members of Oconee’s State “C” Fund Committee recognize the need to fix a rural road north of Walhalla, but they can’t justify the high cost involved.  After having seen the remote roadway that connects highway 107 with the state’s Fish Hatchery, Dick Cottingham says he can’t recommend it.  Allocating more than $1 million dollars for a remote road whose traffic counts are sporadic, Cottingham says the cost can’t be justified considering the numbers of other roads in need of repairs whose traffic counts are much higher.  Tally Grant of the three-member committee agreed.  Cottingham said he was glad to hear Chairman Sam Dickson say an approach will be made to the state DNR, which operates the fish hatchery, to determine whether it could contribute money to the project.
