NPO’s Exempt from Westminster Tax

Westminster’s City Council has voted to exempt Non Profit Organizations from a hospitality ordinance.  The council voted unanimously Tuesday to amend the ordinance which would have made 501(c)3 corporations pay the 2 percent tax on the sale of prepared food and beverages.  The amended ordinance specifically exempts yard sales, benefit dinners and registered festival vendors. City Administrator David Smith says the key to whether the tax applies is whether the activity requires a business license from the city in order to operate.  Yard Sales, benefits, and non profit entities are not required to have the license.
