NRC holds informal “open house”

Overall, in the federal government’s view, the Oconee Nuclear Station’s three units operated safely during the year 2012. The lack of inspection findings or performance indicators that would cause the NRC to raise its oversight and inspection reflected into the informal atmosphere in which last night’s annual assessment meeting was carried out at Duke’s World of Energy. Duke and the NRC are involved in issues over fire protection and potential flooding, but they are separate and apart from the 2012 assessment year. Preston Gillespie, who served as Site Vice President at Oconee Nuclear in 2012, said the NRC’s favorable findings were exactly what he expected.
