Oconee played host over the weekend to a leadership institute sponsored by the South Carolina Firefighters’ Association. Charle King, Oconee fire chief, says it was a special opportunity to help develop future leaders in the fire and emergency service fields. Participants, instructors and supporting staff spent the weekend at Oconee State Park and visited several venues in the area. Among topics covered during the meetings were paid, volunteer and combination departments, health and safety, and labor relations. Among those attending were representatives of fire and rescue departments from Myrtle Beach, Dorchester County, Bluffton, Irmo, Glassy Mountain, St. Andrews, Boiling Springs, Beaufort, and the Vineyards.
