Oconee County pay raises, after all

Over the next 12 months Oconee County employees can look forward to pay increases after all. The County Council last night changed numbers in the new budget to reflect a $1,200 pay raise for each full time employee. The raises achieve council’s intent to ensure that employees making less than $30 thousand dollars, such as starting deputy sheriffs, receive the largest percentage increase. The council included raises after hearing Scott Moulder, the county administrator, say the county will make up the cost thru savings on workers’ compensation, by reducing the amount the county contributes toward the retirement fund, and by eliminating three salaried positions. While council approved the Moulder plan, some members such as Joel Thrift called the shuffling of the funds unsustainable
