Oconee felines to find new home in Virginia

The new Oconee Humane Society transfer van is leaving Thursday morning for its first out-of-state trip.  More than one dozen puppies and several adult dogs will be making the trek to a rescue group in northern Virginia. The dogs are to go into caring foster homes and some have adoptive families awaiting their arrival. According to Angel Newman of the county Humane Society, spay and neuter programs are so successful in the Northeast that shelter populations are greatly reduced. Newman says, “We are fortunate that some of our Oconee County homeless adoptable animals can leave our crowded shelter for loving homes up north.”
