Oconee gets ready for historian types

A week from now, Oconee will host an annual get together of the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies. In a meeting this morning at the Lunney Museum on Seneca’s Silk Stocking Hill, finals plans for the April 9-11 event were being reviewed. Besides the normal business of the group’s membership, the three days next week will serve to highlight the history and culture of Oconee, including museum tours and points of interest. And that dovetails, according to Mildred Spearman and Charlotte Waters, into Oconee’s quest to grow its tourism business. As many as 100 people may attend the conference. Spearman, leader of the Westminster Area Historical Preservation Society, says the Confederation of Local Historical Societies, welcomes members of the general public to tag along. Some of the group’s itinerary can be heard today on 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
