Oconee had a role leading to federal indictments

The Oconee Sheriff’s Office is on the list of law enforcement and other government agencies whose assistance and cooperation played a role in recent drug trafficking conspiracy indictments sought by the federal government.  Beth Drake, Acting U-S Attorney, announced last week that 15 people, including state Department of Correction inmates, have been charged with taking part in a drug trafficking conspiracy from behind prison walls.  According to the U-S Attorney’s office, a federal grand jury returned a 21-count sealed indictment alleging the 15 “conspired to possess with intent to distribute and did distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine; used telephones and the U-S Mail to facilitate a drug offense and conspired to launder drug money by conducting money transfers, cash withdrawals and purchases of and deposits onto pre-paid cash cards….The indictment also alleges unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.”
