Oconee manufacturer to expand

Production at a manufacturing plant near Westminster is expected to increase as the result of an expansion announcement. Sandvik Inc., maker of carbide inserts for the metal cutting industry, is announcing a $12 million investment. And the director of its Westminster production unit, Anders Hillman, says, “This investment is a continuation of our commitment to maintain world class manufacturing in our Westminster facility.” The company’s products and carbide inserts are used in mechanical engineering, automotive, oil and gas, and aerospace applications. Sandvik employs 303 workers at its Westminster location. Its parent company is headquartered in Sweden.
