Oconee Medical Center posts July loss

More patients were using Oconee Medical Center last month, but other factors combined to make July another month of financial loss. The hospital directors received reports last night showing that higher than anticipated charity care and one-time expenses made for a negative bottom line of $245 thousand. July was the ninth month of the fiscal year for OMC. Strong patient volumes led to net revenue that was 5% above budget. But the increased revenue did not translate to the bottom line because of several one-time expenses. The hospital in July provided more than $1.9 million in un-compensated care—either charity or bad debt. Meantime, marriage intentions between OMC and the Greenville Health System continue to point to an October 1 wedding date. Jeanne Ward, OMC president/CEO, said her Greenville counterpart, Michael Riordan, visited OMC last Friday and met with employees. Ward says Riordan’s visit went well.
