Oconee officers learn the new domestic violence law

Oconee sheriff’s officers trained last week in the state’s new domestic violence law.  The Domestic Violence Reform Act became the law June 4 on the signature of Governor Nikki Haley.  Blair Stoudemire, assistant solicitor, conducted the training on the 2nd floor training room at the LawEnforcementCenter.  One big change is the determination of charges based on levels of degrees.  There are also circumstances that can upgrade the level of the degree of a domestic violence arrest, such as whether a protection order was violated.  Penalties for convictions have been increased.
