Oconee prisoner assault occurred

The Oconee jail director has confirmed that in an incident two months ago a prisoner was beaten at night by three other inmates.  According to Major Steve Pruitt, the injured inmate did not require medical treatment and told jail staff he did not wish to pursue charges against those who assaulted him.  Jail staff made an in-house report of the incident, but Pruitt says the Walhalla police were not called in.  According to information received by 101.7/WGOG NEWS from Pruitt and from a family member of the inmate, the prisoner who was beaten was brought to the Oconee jail from a state prison September 1, to be held there until the next morning and transport to a post-conviction relief hearing in Anderson.  Pruitt says the prisoner was able to go through with his PCR hearing the next day.
