Oconee public transit moves ahead

Oconee County Council agreed to pay for a study to implement an expansion of bus service, but individual councilmen’s comments indicate concern for the overall cost of the service. The council approved a request to spend $23 thousand, 500 dollars for a service implementation study. The request came from County Administrator Scott Moulder, who chairs the county’s transit task force. But District One’s Paul Corbeil said cities that are to benefit, such as Walhalla and Westminster, should begin to consider helping fund an expansion of service now restricted to the greater Seneca area. The outside company that’ll undertake the study has previously estimated that the cost of connecting Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster with buses could approximate as much as $1 million a year.
