Oconee seen as tourist destination

An Oconee County councilman envisions his county as a destination for international tourism. And the reason for that, Paul Cain says, are Oconee County’s abundant natural resources—it lakes, its rivers, and its high elevations. Cain made the comments as he spoke to an Oconee Chamber of Commerce committee meeting today in Seneca. Early next year the study of the past will bring South Carolina historians to Seneca and the county for a conference being arranged by Dr. John Martin, director and curator of Seneca museums. Cain today promoted Oconee County’s part in the state’s National Heritage Corridor project the “South Carolina Great Outdoor” program, and he believes it will lead to better cooperation among the county’s three largest municipalities when it comes to the tourist potential.
