Oconee stays solid Republican
Oconee voters stayed loyal to the Grand ‘Ol Party, giving Republican nominee donald Trump 71.8% of the vote, as compared with 23.8% for Democrat Hillary Clinton. It was a big voter turnout countywide, ending at 67% of those eligible to have cast ballots today. In other race, Oconeeans preferred incumbent Jeff Duncan for Congress. Seneca businessman and Democrat Hosea Cleveland recorded 22.2%. For the non-partisan school board seat, incumbent Denise McCormick bested challenger Patrick James by 65.7% to 33.8%. All Oconee voters remain unofficial until they are certified Friday morning.
