Oconee to make exemptions for noise

If a certain industry comes calling, will Oconee make exception if what that manufacturer does runs afoul of the county’s noise rules? The answer at last night’s County Council meeting appeared to be yes. Four of the five council members approved an ordinance adding exemptions to the noise code that are conducive to business. Voting no was the council’s newest member, Edda Cammick, who asked for a delay to allow consideration of other county’s noise laws. After last night’s public hearing, the council approved the ordinance on a motion by Paul Cain who said he felt the ordinance needed to be approved, but re-visit it later to address other deficiencies such as a decibel limit that prohibits music concerts.
