Oconee to pursue nine extra school safety officers

Two additional school resource officers approved Monday by Oconee school trustees are inadequate in the view of the county council.  After receiving citizen petitions, the council last night moved to hire nine more school officers.  The plan would cover all of the county’s elementary schools and include two non-government schools—the Oconee Christian Academy and the Eagle Ridge charter school in Salem. Seneca resident Andrea Toussaint presented a petition signed by 710 Oconeeans asking that the council provide the additional security for elementary schools and support for a possible tax increase of up to 1.5 mills to fund it.
