Oconee turns out 46% (20,568 votes)

Oconee voters rebelled at the idea of a capital sales project tax. At the same time, they demonstrated a taste for the spirits on the Lord’s Day. Nearly 46% of those eligible cast votes in the 2014 General Election and, in every instance where a Republican met a Democrat, Oconee’s electorate went with the Republican in a big way—giving the governor, the district’s congressman, and the state’s two incumbent U-S senators totals of 70% or higher. In a non-partisan contest, veteran county school trustee Jerry Lee held onto his District One seat, dispatching challenger Allen Brewer nearly 60% to 40%.
