Oconee’s vote results

Oconeeans who made the effort yesterday cast their lot with the apparent winners in the statewide primary runoff elections. Fewer than three thousand Oconee County voters participated in runoff elections. Here are Oconee’s unofficial results: In the Democratic runoff, Tom Thompson took nearly 66% of the vote for state Superintendent of Education. Thompson tallied 131 votes. His runoff opponent, Shelia Gallagher, received 68. Oconee Republican voters decided their superintendent runoff by giving Molly Mitchell Spearman 54%. Spearman’s count amounted to 1,372 as compared to her opponent, Sally Atwater, who received 1,169. County Republican voters went with Henry McMaster to be their party’s nominee for Lieutenant Governor. McMaster racked up 1,561 or 61% of the Oconee vote. His opponent, Mike Campbell, recorded 989 votes.
