Officer invovled in weekend shooting

An unidentified Oconee deputy was involved in one of two incidents of shots fired early Saturday near Westminster, and that part of the investigation has been turned over to the state police.  Two other individuals, also not yet identified by name, were wounded.  9-1-1 was alerted around 2 am to shots fired into a home on the Brock Road. The suspected shooter, according to Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, left the home with a passenger inside.  A chase ended three to four miles from the Brock Road address.  According to Crenshaw, shots were fired from inside the vehicle and a deputy returned fire.  The passenger and the suspect sustained gunshot wounds; however, investigators believe the passenger was struck from gunfire inside the vehicle. SLED is determining how the suspect was hit.  The passenger and the suspect were transported for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office does not believe any threats currently exist that would endanger the public.” Due to the fact of the ongoing SLED investigation, the Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any suspect, victim, or deputy involved information until SLED has determined it would not interfere in their investigation,” according to Sheriff Crenshaw.  “The Sheriff’s Office has obtained arrest warrants against the suspect in the Brock Road shooting and we will release that information once the investigation is complete.  The deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.”
