Offsetting that Duke shortfall

Oconee Auditor Ken Nix points out that, in spite of an anticipated shortfall in the county’s budget as the result of reduced Duke Energy assessment, there are some offsets.  New growth that is making its way onto the tax books. Nix gave some examples last night to the County Council. They include the taxes assessed the Hampton Inn and Suites and higher assessments in Keowee Key and High Pointe/Pointe West. But an increase in the numbers of assessments from car purchases is a sign to Nix of a recovering economy.
