Old Seneca home gets reprieve

With the concurrence of the city of Seneca, a South Oak Street property owner will have 30 days to obtain the necessary financing to bring an old house up to city standards. Brenda Knox, owner of the structure on South Oak near Third, made a joint appearance with the city’s Ed Halbig in front of Judge Danny Singleton today in the Seneca Municipal Court. And Singleton granted their request, although he reserves the right to order the demolition of the old house if Knox is unable to obtain the loan or other financing she’ll need in 30 days. The property has an historic distinction. It was the home place of the city’s first African-American physician.
