Old St. John’s getting finishing touches

Old St. John's 3 Old St. John's 1 The project manager for Old St. John’s in Walhalla, Frank Strickland, has begun the finishing touches on what once was a church and is now being transformed into a meeting house and wedding chapel. The deconsecrated Episcopal church occupies a corner spot on property at Kaufman Square—the Walhalla Depot and community grounds. “Basically,” he said, “Duke Energy has installed a power pole and run the line to the meter to turn on the lights and fans. The pews are being built at the Hamilton Career Center and will mimic the one original pew left in the building.” Old St. John’s supporter Maxie Duke credits Strickland with working tirelessly during the summer to finish the floor and complete the interior of the entry way, and get the porches installed.
