Old topic renewed at meeting

The Walhalla mayor says a meeting last week was “very helpful” toward a long-talked about project for burying electric power lines. Mayor Danny Edwards says he took from the meeting a preference on the part of Duke Energy to bury in the ground all electric lines that now run along a four-block area of Main Street downtown. And the cost of which, the mayor said, is something that Duke representatives indicated the utility would bear. Advantages to in burying the lines are safety and aesthetics, the mayor said. The project could be a prelude to the larger project of a downtown streetscape, for which the mayor and the city council committed to in their first year in office.
