On his 90th, Sandifer gives back to his town

A leading Westminster citizen is celebrating his birthday by giving back to a city that has been good to him and his family. Cecil Sandifer, funeral home owner, turned 90 years old yesterday. Today he donated $9 thousand to three of the city’s good causes. At an event at the Westminster Depot, Sandifer’s daughter, Mimi Anderson, announced on behalf of her father the donation of $3 thousand each to Dot’s soup kitchen, to scouting organizations, and to the Westminster Recreation Department. Cecil Sandifer met his future wife, Frances, at the children’s home. According to the Sandifers’ youngest daughter, Mimi Anderson, her father never forgot how leaders of the children’s home community donated money to help ensure the orphans received some of the advantages that other children received. Besides opening a business in Westminster, Sandifer served as a mayor and, according to his daughter, appointed the city’s first recreation director. He later served in the state legislature and a term on the state employment security commission.
