One-year old hotel boosts city tax fund

A one-year old hotel in Seneca has helped raise a city fund used to promote tourism and events. Seneca’s newsletter quotes Joel Seavey, finance officer and clerk-treasurer, as saying, “In the first year of the Hampton Inn, the city’s ATAX has increased by 150%. Each month, hotels like the Hampton Inn, pay 1.5% of their total accommodations revenue to the city. In fiscal year year 2013, $45,806 was collected (from hotels only) through the tax. Residents don’t pay the tax, just visitors to the city.”
