ONS’s 2013 performance, as judged by the NRC

The federal watchdog agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, has determined that the overall performance of Duke Energy’s Oconee nuclear units in 2013 preserved public health and safety and met all cornerstone objectives. The NRC informed Scott Batson, Oconee Site Vice President, by letter March 4 that all inspection findings had very low safety significance. The NRC’s Joey Ledford says those findings are to be reviewed during a public meeting this spring. NRC inspectors did come up with a pair of what were referred to as traditional enforcement violations, but is confident those will be resolved by a follow up inspection.
