ONS’s fire suppression system

Duke Energy wants more time to make fire protection improvements at the Oconee Nuclear Station. Spokesman Roger Hannah of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission spoke to 96.3/WGOG NEWS today about a meeting last month at NRC headquarters near Washington, at which Duke requested an extension of a deadline. Hannah says the work underway would implement Oconee Nuclear’s fire protection program based on the National Fire Protection Association Standard 805. According to Hannah, every nuclear plant in the country maintains a fire brigade of plant workers who, when needed, would act as fire fighters.
