Optimism sounded for pool opening

Don’t put away those swim trunks just yet. Those involved with the project to return the Walhalla Municipal Swimming Pool to service remain optimistic that the issues remaining will be resolved in time to allow for an August opening and, possibly, an extended season into September. County Councilman Wayne McCall and City Councilman David Underwood say one of the issues is a final go-ahead from DHEC. That’s critical, Mayor Danny Edwards said Saturday, for certifying the applicants to work as lifeguards. Edwards says the city has enough lifeguard applicants. It’s a matter of getting them certified and trained in the pool they’ll work.
