Outdoor enthusiasts tout Walhalla

Outdoor enthusiasts see a bicycle mecca in the future for Walhalla.  Jim Majors, the Upstate trail coordinator for the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, said during a meeting last night at Old St. John’s, “We want to make Walhalla a mountain biking mecca.”  Majors and other officials are promoting Walhalla as the northern end for a 350-mile statewide trail.  Extensions will add about 16 miles to the trail—from its current end at Oconee Station Historic Site to a new end at Walhalla’s Kaufman Square covering the grounds of the city’s Depot and Community Cultural Center.  Mayor Danny Edwards is on board, saying last night he’s hoping the trail project develops.
