Businessman assumes OMC chair seat

An Oconee businessman has risen to chairman of the board at Oconee Medical Center. Rick Phillips succeeds Dr. Bill Howiler, who leaves the board of directors after two terms in office. Besides Phillips, the slate of new hospital officers are Thelma Miller, vice chairwoman; Bo Wilhite, secretary; and Cecil Turner, treasurer.

Accident near Walhalla injures one

An accident shortly before 8:30 last night injured one person near Walhalla. The injured, identified as a female, required a trip to the hospital after a one-vehicle accident near the Oconee Rock Quarry. Elsewhere, public safety responders were busy with a brush fire and, in Long Creek, a chimney fire.
