Hikers airlifted from park

The North Carolina Helicopter and Aquatic Rescue Team (NCHART) airlifted three stranded South Carolina hikers who spent a bitterly cold and wet night on the Appalachian Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Pet food donated to Tamassee shelter

The Salem branch of the Oconee Public Library and Printing  Solutions of Walhalla collected more than 200 pounds of pet food and treats for Sundance Stables Animal Rescue of Tamassee. It’s a no-kill, non-profit, all-volunteer shelter.

Lawmakers to meet the public tonight

Oconee’s state lawmakers will discuss the start of a new legislative session tonight. The delegation’s annual meeting also serves as a chance for members of the public to address the lawmakers. All requests for spots on the agenda, however, were due by last Thursday. Tonight’s delegation meeting begins at 5:30 at the Seneca City Hall.

Start of electric bus service delayed

Seneca’s fleet of electric buses will not debut today, as scheduled. The city’s Ed Halbig reports a problem with the charging stations means the buses that will run regular routes today are the gas diesel buses. In the meantime, the electric buses will be on the roads, shadowing the gas diesel buses.
