UPDATE from the courtroom

A jury is in place in Walhalla for the start of S.C. v. James Bartee. The judge told the jury to go home for the rest of the day and return at 9 tomorrow morning. That’s when attorneys for both sides make their opening arguments and the first testimony can proceed.

After some lengthy preliminaries, jury selection is underway in the State’s case against James Bartee. By 12:45 this afternoon, a third juror had been seated. Twelve are needed. Garbage pickup change

West Union announces a change in its garbage pickups this week. Garbage collection that normally takes place Tuesday will take place instead on Thursday this week only, according to Cecelia Atkins, town administrator. Two sanitation workers are on medical leave tomorrow.
