Adult education switching to computer tests

A sea change ahead in the testing method for the high school equivalent of a diploma through adult education. Beginning after the first of 2014, the test for the GED will be computer-based only. 17 finish requirements for summer diplomas

The latest high school graduates in Oconee County are those students who this summer completed requirements for their diplomas. Commencement ceremonies were held August 13 at Walhalla High for 17 graduates. The graduates came from three of the county’s high schools.

School resource officer calls it a career

August 19, 2013

An Oconee school resource officer has stepped down as a full-time law enforcement officer. Jerry Turner will now serve as a reserve deputy for the Oconee Sheriff’s Office. Turner served as West-Oak High School’s resource officer. Earlier in his career he was a Walhalla policeman and served a stint as police chief.
