OMC birthrate identical two straight years

“Pretty coincidental, isn’t it?” That’s a remark from a spokeswoman at Oconee Medical Center about the hospital’s birth rate for the last two years. In both 2011 and 2012, last year, exactly 582 babies were born in the hospital both years.

A 43-year old man surrendered to Oconee deputies last night and a barricade situation at a home near Walhalla ended peacefully at 8:41 p-m. Once, Timothy Scott Blackwell was in custody, authorities re-opened a closed section of SC 183, the Walhalla-Pickens Highway, between Fowler Road and Freedom Drive. Georgia man drowns in Lake Hartwell

Authorities say a 54-year old man drowned on the Georgia side of Lake Hartwell Saturday while trying to swim back from a buoy.
