Oconee County is targeting a date to “light up” FOCUS–the project to bring high-speed broadband service countywide. Paul Corbeil, District One county councilman, says the projected date is four months away–Friday, March 15, 2013. The county’s public schools are already beginning to switch to the service, according to Dr. Mike Lucas, county superintendent.

60-year old was traffic fatality

This just in….A 60-year old resident of Fowood Hills near Westminster was this morning’s traffic fatality on S.C. 11. Coroner Karl Addis said Guy Arvid Nelson died in the accident involving his pickup truck and other vehicles shortly after 6:30 a-m at S.C. 11 and Bruce Road.

A new finance director has gone to work for Oconee County government. Mark Pulliam, a former finance director for the University of Montana, began work as Oconee finance director a couple of weeks ago. He’ll be paid $80 thousand a year.

Fatality in SC 11 accident

State troopers report one person killed this morning in what apparently was a four-vehicle accident on S.C. 11 at Bruce Road. At least two people were reportedly severely hurt, requiring one of them to be flown by helicopter to the Greenville Memorial Hospital.
