Accident leaves roadway covered by sand

An accident early today on U-S 76 between Westminster and Long Creek left a tractor-trailer practically cut in half. By this afternoon, the wrecked trailer part of the rig lay off the side of the highway. No injuries were reported.

Whitmire to vote for no-texting

At least one member of Oconee’s state delegation says he will vote in favor of a bill that would make texting-while-driving illegal statewide. Oconee County Council was told this morning that such a bill will be introduced in the General Assembly and Bill Whitmire, the District One representative, declared he will vote for it.
