Fire has been extinguished!

An apparent small fire has been extinguished this morning at Walhalla’s Kountry Kupboard restaurant. Chief Doug Kelley of the Walhalla Fire Department calls it a grease fire, but other details were not immediately known. Kelley believes the restaurant will be able to serve its customers this morning, although an assessment will be required.

Chief building official to resign

Seneca’s long-time chief building official is departing. Ed Halbig, planning and community development director, this afternoon confirmed the resignation of Eddie Moore, who will leave his employment with the city by August 15. According to Halbig, B-J Klaren is being elevated to succeed Moore. Klaren has served as building inspector.

A rare meeting of the Oconee Municipal Association takes place Monday for the purpose of appointing a representative to the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments in Greenville. The meeting is set for 6 o’clock at the Seneca City Hall.

Summer graduation at Clemson University

At Clemson University graduation, 965 students received degrees. The crowd that made its way into Littlejohn Coliseum numbered more than 6,000. The 965 degree candidates made the exercises one of Clemson’s largest summer ceremonies ever. They included Eddie Railey and his daughter, Reagan, who graduated together from Engineering and Science.
