Arson attempt at Walhalla

A 24-year old Westminster man was jailed at Walhalla over the weekend after authorities investigated an attempt to set fire to a pickup truck. Charges by the city police and the Oconee Sheriff’s Department against Richard Shane Welch were listed as burglary second degree, malicious injury to personal property, and attempted arson. Two to choose from in Salem

At the deadline last week, Salem had a pair of candidates for a vacant seat on the town council. At the deadline, the candidates were Russell Patterson and Ray Cameron. They will square off during a special November 13 election to fill the unexpired term of Tony Moore, who moved to Michigan.
