Patrol cites driver in fatal bicycle accident

A spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of a car involved in a fatal accident yesterday near the Oconee Regional Airport received a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. The accident, around 6 o’clock yesterday morning occurred on the Shiloh Road, took the lif of bicycle rider Michael Lee, a Seneca dentist. Dr. Lee was 55 years old. Lance Corporal Tony Keller said the car driver, 46-year old Seneca resident James Webb, was not hurt. Both Webb’s Honda and Lee’s bike were headed south toward Seneca and the accident occurred, Keller said, when the car hit the bike from behind. Coroner Karl Addis said Lee was wearing cycling attire and safety equipment was present. The bike had warning lights which Addis said were on at the time.
