Pendleton Students Take Honors in Art Contest

A Pendleton Elementary school student took top honors in the K-3 category in the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources “Reel Art” contest. Justin Whitfield, a student of Steve Johnson at Pendleton Elementary took first place in that category.  Another Pendleton Elementary Student, Tydarius Merriweather, received honorable mention in the 4th through 6th grade categories. The overall winner of the contest was Ethan Lopez from Charleston county School of the Arts. He received State best of Show and a first place award in the grades 7-9 category. The yearly art contest is conducted by the DNR and sponsored by Sportfish Restoration Funds and the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife fund. Entries were judged in Columbia at S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) headquarters on February 7th. Replicas of the winning artwork was exhibited at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in February 14-16 at Marion Square in Charleston and soon at the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic March 28-30 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia.
