Petition campaign to save “fly-off” exit

A petition campaign has been announced in an effort to try to save the “fly-off” lane that carries traffic off 123 onto 93 in the direction of Clemson University.  Robert Moore, a Waterford Pointe resident, hopes to attract 200 signatures to influence the outcome.  The area in question is destined for the construction of a church along with a commercial area between 123 and Lake Hartwell.  At a meeting last week, Moore told the Oconee County Council he objects to the plan that would close the existing “fly-off” lane and funnel traffic instead into a type of “T”-up intersection at the 93-123 traffic lights.  Moore also says, “I have received word that the county’s road team plans a meeting….with DOT to discuss the issue.”
