Phillips applauds year two of GHS-OMH

This month marks the second year of the Oconee hospital affiliation with the Greenville Health System, and the sole Oconeean member of the GHS board of directors says he believes the arrangement has worked for the best.  “I can’t help but think how fortunate we are, as a community, to be part of that system,” said Rick Phillips.  Like a lot of 21st century community hospital, the former Oconee Medical Center was debt-ridden, but GHS assumed Oconee’s approximate $70 million of indebtedness.  The 2014 deal allowed GHS to capture the Golden Corner’s health care business, while Oconee was assured that the county continues to have a local hospital.
