Phone scam warning to others

A woman near Walhalla picked up the phone last week and thought she heard her grandson say he had been involved in a car accident in South America and needed money. The caller sounded like her grandson and knew certain things about their family. Later she realized he was not her grandson, and when she called his cell phone she found out he was in Atlanta, not Chile. Having already wired money, the grandmother was able to get Western Union to cancel the wire and recover her money. Her story is instructive to everyone that scammers are working the telephones and to be especially careful.
