Pickens County man convicted

A jury in Pickens County has convicted a Central man of criminal sexual conduct with a minor first degree. Judge Clifton Newman handed down a 30-year sentence to Vernon Glen Evans which means the 51-year old Evans will be required to serve 25 and half years before becoming eligible for parole. The victim in the case was among the trial’s witnesses. According to an announcement by 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins, Evans used his friendship of the victim’s father to position himself as a volunteer babysitter. And it was as a babysitter, according to Wilkins, when sexual abuse took place.
