Picnic to celebrate conservation feat

A picnic to remember a major conservation accomplishment in Oconee County takes place this year Saturday, August 3 at the Stumphouse Tunnel Park. And conservationist J-Harold Thomas invites everyone to bring a picnic lunch that day to celebrate a feat which seemed impossible six years ago. That’s when conservationists and others raised millions of dollars to keep one thousand acres away from a Florida developer who had envisioned the property adjoining the park and tunnel and nearby falls as a home development. Lunch will be served at 1 o’clock. Drinks, plates and plastic ware will be provided.
