“Pill Take Back Day” reports collection numbers

More than 32 pounds of prescription medication is in the possession of the Oconee Sheriff’s Office—the result of a community-wide “Pill Take Back Day” in Seneca. And Lt. Jeremy Chapman promises the almost 29 pounds of pills and nearly 3.5 pounds of liquid medication will be disposed of properly. Last Friday’s collection, at the Norton-Thompson Park and the one like it in April at Oconee Hospital, prevents no longer needed medication from possibly making its way into the sewer system. That, according to Chapman, could lead to land and water resources being contaminated. The collections also keep the products away from the hands of children and young people.
