Pinnacle Mountain fire shows its persistence

The Pinnacle Mountain fire last night crossed containment lines south of Brushy Knob, but crews this morning report they worked into the early morning and established lines around that area.  By early today, the fire stood at 10, 097 acres burned and containment was 50%.  Efforts included extinguishing hot spots and clearing fire lines of falling leaves.  Today crews continue to secure the northeast side of the fire by strengthening firebreaks and conducting a burnout operation just north of the Table Rock Reservoir toward Buzzard Mountain Road.  If successful, this action will stop the spread of the fire to the east.  Crews are also patrolling fire lines and cooling hot spots throughout the fire perimeter. Table Rock State Park and trails remain closed.  The Park is expected to re-open in stages, possibly as early as this afternoon.  Some trails and interior areas of the park will remain closed due to fire activity. Structure protection teams are staged in high risk areas holding line, evaluating homes for risk and mitigating risks where possible. Structures threatened are in Pickens Co. (112), Greenville Co. (523), and Transylvania Co., NC (171) Populations effected are Pickens Co. (122), Greenville Co. (187), and Transylvania Co. (132)
